The winds aloft forecasts have been swinging around in terms of direction, but basically it looks high pressure, light and irritable (to use Morey's phrase) both days. YMMV, go to http://www.sahga.com/weather.html and check it out.

I wouldn't presume to advise the PG pilots, but none of the local sites look very good for HG at the moment.

Mingus looks decent Saturday and Sunday, and there are some HG pilots talking about going on their board. I'm having a hard time getting enthusiastic about the 3.5 hour drive each way, so I may sit this weekend out.

Damn, I miss Miller Canyon.

What about Miller? Winds forecast ENE tomorrow with lots of lift, doesn't Miller have a launch that can handle ENE? Haven't flown there yet, would love to. It seems you southern boys have the only decent lift in the state right now.

Unfortunately Miller has been closed for several months due to the Monument fire during the summer, and will continue to be closed until at least April.

It may clock around NW in the PM. I'll check winds aloft mid day Saturday and post my plans.

What would clocking around NW in the PM mean? Samaniego?

Scott would be referring to Box. As the upper level flow isn't consistent, the Lemmon doesn't look that good right now. But, as the ground warms, it creates an 'uphill' flow, which is from the NW. You may have noticed that Phoenix is lower than Tucson, and Sierra Vista is higher. This uphill/NW flow is often enough to overcome the iffy upper level winds and give us a flow that cruises up Box and gives us its stellar glassoffs.

Looks like Box might be ripe for glassoff or XC. Winds in Green Valley look perfect for it, got 29.05 for pressure. Anybody in? TOUL is at 11 grand, got some major XC potential. With a light N wind, could fly to Nogales if you wanted.

Looks very high pressure. If the north flow turns on, Box could be good this PM. Check back around 1PM.

It is dead here in town. I think the high pressure has shut the north flow down.

I think Mt. Lemmon was flyable today. Weather underground showed the surface wind coming out of the WSW starting around 10:00AM and the winds were light.

I saw some clouds over Mt. Lemmon around 1:30PM. Guessing around 10,500 ft.

Anyone interested in trying to fly Sunday?

Can anyone tell me if the Lemmon pg launch is any better for hg than the current hg launch? Im not concerned about the glide out, just the state of the launch, steepness, obstacles, etc. From second hand info it seems like there are two launches for pg?? One lower down and one hiking down from near the top...Im interested in the upper one if that is true.

Dustin,
We have a PG launch that we call Sanmaniego Ridge. It's a 2-mile, 1000 vertical foot hike _down_ from the top of Mt. Lemmon through the pines on a well maintained trail. This launch is suitable for HG and PG. Eric Smith can provide more details for you as he flew a Falcon from this launch last year.
We would love to have you join us for a flight from Sanmaniego Ridge.
