For our next meeting, I'm planning on making a presentation on Thermal Flying aimed in principle at newer pilots with less experience flying in thermal conditions, however more advanced pilots are encouraged to participate as well.
Although I'm going to have a paraglider pilot's perspective on thermaling, I'm sure a lot of info will apply to hang gliding as well.
Topics that I'm going to cover are things like:
1. Thermal lifecycle
2. Thermal generators/triggers
3. Thermal indicators
4. Thermal related issues (turbulence, convergence, inversions, etc)
5. Thermal etiquette, centering techniques and rules
6. XC flying, instruments etc.
and others
If you have specific questions or are interested in a specific topic, please send them to me and I will do my best to include it.
I'm planning on it taking about an hour, starting right after we get done with our normal club business.
See you there:
