I called Alan's wife, Mary, as soon as I heard. It's true. They asked me to spread the word to the flying community, so feel free to pass the information on.

My very long time friend, Alan Chucutlate, died today in an ultralight trike crash in Baja Mexico. I have no further information at this time. I will be leaving for San Diego tomorrow morning. I should be back home for a day, to day and a half, before I leave Friday morning, for my already planned trip to spend time with my two sons at Vegas and Nellis AFB.

I only met Allan once through Arjan while flying Torrey Pines. Seemed like a great person who loved flying. Sorry to hear he died.

This is very sad news, indeed. Alan got involved in many aspects of motoring, including leadership in the USPPA, and was at almost all major fly-ins. Mike W., Albert, Ed, and myself all were very well acquainted with Allen through motoring fly-ins and his visits to Phoenix. Very friendly, colorful, guy who seemed to know everyone. He will be sorely missed.

Scott, do you know what kind of an ultralight trike Allen was killed in.
He was an excellent PPG and PG pilot talked to him many times. He and I tussled over the registration #69 at the the Salton Sea 2004 fly-in. He will be greatly missed.

From a perusal of the bulletin boards, it appears that Alan was landing near dusk at an unfamiliar field and hit power lines.

Alan and two other trike pilots were running out of daylight and were attempting a landing, in near dark, in an unscheduled and unknown landing sight they picked from the air. No one saw the high voltage power lines near the field. Alan never saw them and was electrocuted the instant he flew into them.

The memorial service is this Friday at 2:00 PM, at Torrey Pines Glider Port.
