Miller Canyon 16 July 2005

Dave Bishop and Jerry Hain and I headed out for Miller Sat. morning. Mike Wolford offered to drive. We met Mike in the lz at 0900. Conditions looked good so we erected the wind sock and drove up to launch.
The wind seemed to be more east north east than south east so we elected to use the hike out launch.
Jerry launched first in 5 to 8 from the east launch. He climbed above launch quickly. Dave was off next with a strong running launch from the north launch. He wasted no time climbing above a few hundred feet.
The thermals were rather switchy and I waited on the north launch for a time and shifted to the east launch which payed off.
The lift was scattered and strong. I soared around for a few in front of launch finally hooking a good one to ride aloft. Jerry and Dave were both in Sport II 155`s and I spent a little time looking up at them. Drifting up the Canyon I climbed above Carr peak. That was the last of Sports above,I topped out at cloud base 13,400. Jerry climbed to 9K and headed for the valley and I glided out over the lz at 12K. I glided to the Copper top descending to 8500 msl. They were on the ground now and I did not think I could get far in the north east head wind. I glided back to the lz, a small thermal gave me a few hundred foot boost. I glided in to land a few feet from the break down area, Hollywood!
We all flew for an hour. I registered 1600 up and 1900 down, on a ten second averager! Nice air if you stay in the up side!

PS I`ll be out of town next weekend. Would any one like to go to Salt lake to fly on the 30th?
