A Mt. flight report

2 Feb 2005 A Mt.

I always like to fly on Holidays, ground hogs day is not exception. The weather conditions looked right for A Mt. My daughter Lucy volunteered to drive. We arrived to find NE breezy condition; of 18 to 25 mph. Lucy helped me hike the equipment to the peak. I launched at 430 pm into gusty lift conditions to fly with a RC. It wasn’t long before there were four in the air with me and a hawk. The Sport II climbed above them all! Flying the A is always lots of fun, a little bumpy, on this particular day. The lift extended all the way out to El Grande. I soared around for 35 minutes, the hawk finally climbed up to me. He was something to watch, he dove on several of the RC`s. I guess he figured I was a little too large to intimidate. We circled twice together and then he left. The regular LZ looked rather small an ENE cross wind. I landed south of 22nd street, east of the river. This field is being graded, so looks like more building around the A. Nice to have a large LZ in strong gusty winds. Lucy showed up a moment after landing and we packed up and headed home. It was nice to get some airtime at the end of a busy day. A lot of work for a 35 minute flight , well worth it!
