You had a nice hike, but did you folks fly yesterday afternoon?
I'm keeping my eye open for possibly flying Box this afternnon. Winds are now expected to be out of the N at 7. I'll wait till 1pm to make a final decision. Feel free to call me at 520-906-0182.

I would also like to go to Mustang and could meet anyone there as I live in Patagonia but have not flown there before so need someone to be a guide. My cell number is 520-604-0209; I don't check this board very often.

I'm a HG pilot, but I've heard the PG pilots say that the Mustangs rotor pretty bad with any northwest or north winds. It might not be apparent on launch. I don't know how strong it has to be blowing to be a problem.

With Weather Underground Ft. Huachuca saying N at 2 PM going NW by 5 PM, and the Tucson forecast NE at 2 PM going N by 5 PM, Box might be a better prospect if you find anyone headed there.

Good luck!

John

Thanks John for the tip. I don't feel I'm quite ready for Box, hike-wise if not flying-wise. I understand it's a longer hike at Box. Also it's much longer a drive than I feel like today and I'm not yet a member of SAHGA. But I'm not attached to flying today so may just wait. I can fly just about any aftternoon including weekdays. Looking forward to meeting you some day.

Thanks evryone for the insights and weather conditions.

We did not have our hearts set on the mustangs per say...it was recommended by Scott & Ross that the Mustangs would be a good place to catch air, gain experience, and learn from other experienced pilots about WX conditions, etc. since we are still in the novice/learning realm.

We truely appreciate the heads up about today's WX conditions. As explained by Scott & Ross, the initial forcast for Box had favorable conditions yesterday...but after making the journey out there...the clouds & wind conditions seemed unfavorable. We are looking for smooth training type WX conditions (those that would NOT take me back up to that 10K altitude). Or at least not quite yet  all in due time.

As for Box today...We'll keep an eye on the message board for the WX and see what turns out.

Thanks again,
Sherry & Ray

We'll, I've made my decision. Winds are now scheduled to be ENE/NNE till 4pm, then maybe go N till 6pm. As much as I want to fly, and since I need to be home for dinner, it's NO flying today. Oh well, I'm off to play golf. Maybe Monday afternoon for a flight off the lower launch.
