Dixon White Memorial PG & HG Fly In? [was 04 Demo Days]

Looks like SAHGA supports HG & PG, your logo shows that and I can appreciate it being a pilot of both.

I received a e-mail from Marty at Airplay and he is interested in the idea too.

An anonymous AHGA member has given me the heads up that there may be some HG exclusivity (animosity) in the AHGA towards the idea, I've experienced this in the past but as I am returning to the sport after a few years away, I thought this may have been diluted by the attrition, perhaps not. I am going to find out if there really is a problem, it may simply be perception is askew.

Is there support for the idea of a Dixon White Memorial Fly In below in the SAHGA?

--------------------

With all due respect to the family and friends of Dixon White, I would like to propose a "Memorial Para & Hang Gliding Fly In" at Merium and Sheba Flight Park. I knew Dixon way back when (...had given my ex-wife a PG lesson) and in the interim of my sabbatical from the sport, I understand that he organized the "Flight Park" on the edge of the beautiful Painted Desert.

I don't know if it is applicable, but in review, the "October Demo Days" event at the crators probably attracts the largest amount of pilots than any other time of the year. Would it be possible to change the name of "Demo Days" to the "Dixon Days" or something for that event and make it a combination gathering of manufactures and PG/HG pilot celebration?

I think it would be a great idea to get more hang glider guys involved in sharing the air with paragliders. Exchanging good times, demonstrating and or bringing wings for prospective customers of each discipline. This event would propogate "community" in the direction similar to what Dixon worked hard for and would remember him at the Flight Park he worked so hard for.

We can promote this through Airplay, ozreport, HG&PG Magazine for this year (and following years) if the idea is found a good one.

[We can also DELETE this thread immediately if anyone is offended, my apologies]

Please consider my idea just that, an idea. If it is a good idea, let it take seed and grow through your support. I am a hang gliding and paragliding enthusiast on the way to returning to the sport(s). I have a lot of ideas and I think this one is one of the best ones that I could ever imagine for the PG & HG community, that is, if the family and friends of Dixon would support this event.

October is quickly approaching. There is enought time to get the word out, that is, if the idea stands in this community, and beyond...

Please respond with your thoughts at this thread, in a e-mail or private message or a telephone call to my cell phone 602 684-2271 to let me know what you think. If anyone is offended, I will immediately delete this thread.

Whoa, I was just reviewing the site, looks like this is not my idea after all. Perhaps the two communities would be interested in talking with each other to combine the events.

Perhaps this is already in the making...

A memorial has been set for 11 July at the Little America Hotel in Flagstaff, AZ. The memorial is set to start at 10am with Brunch served at 11am. Please visit www.paraglide.com and use the link on the home page to RSVP if you will be attending the memorial, we need to keep track of the number of folks coming.

Plans are in the works for a memorial fly-in for October, so keep that in mind if you cannot attend this service. Information will be on the website when finalized.

FYI: Demo Days is coming up in October at Merium and Sheba Crators.

Sounds like Moyes and Wills Wing will be there with their latest.
