The following covers our launch area at Miller. Until it's lifted Miller is closed to HG/PG. Updated information can be found at http://airspace.nifc.gov/mapping/nifc/index.cfm.

As of this evening TV news is reporting the Montezuma fire covers 180 acres. No information about expected containment.

0830 June 3, 2004 report From http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/fire/swapredict ... abrief.htm

MONTEZUMA
Coronado National Memorial, NPS
Under Investigation, 6/02
Location: 15 miles south of Sierra Vista, AZ
Area Involved: 240 acres
Containment: 20%
Fuels: FM-6 Brush, grass, shrubs
Incident Management: Type 3 Management (Wilcox, IC)
Resources: 2 Type 1 crews, 2 Type 2 crews, 2 helicopters, 10 engines, and 6 water tenders. Total 151 personnel.
Remarks: Fire is located in Multi-jurisdiction, involving 3-4 different agencies and potential threat of international exchange with the Mexican government on a fire just over the line. Yesterday, fire behavior was active on all flanks, making upslope runs and torching in oak and juniper. The use of multiple aircraft knocked the fire down, making the crews effective. Planned actions are to have crews establish fireline with support from helicopters and other air resources. Fire has potential to grow to the north due to the southwest winds.

Miller flight restriction is lifted!

Post by jlowery » Fri Jun 04, 2004 6:32 pm

The Montezuma file is 100% contained at 240 acres, and it appears that the TFR over the area has been lifted.

It doesn't look like there will be Miller flying weather this weekend, but at least now we can go there when it finally blows in.
