Anybody for Box Glass Off on Monday

Post by Gunter » Mon May 31, 2004 6:22 am

Looks like it could be a nice glass off at Box tonight. Plan to be at Lz at 5pm, launch by 6pm. Winds in Lz are expected to bearound 7-6 mph from WNW. Similar to Sunday but lighter. How about you Pav? And how about the rest of the PG pilots?

Sorry, but we arrived too late from San Diego. Had a nice soaring flight at Torrey Pines there.....
how was the flight? Aren't the winds too strong for PG?

Flying Report for Box, Sunday and Monday

Post by Gunter » Mon May 31, 2004 9:32 pm

Sunday,
As Scott reported, I launched at 5:30pm from the lower N launch and slowly benched up to the top. Winds were strong at 7000' and I used the speed bar several times above 6500' to penetrate foward at about 2-3 mph. Then at 6:30 glass off started. It became considerable smoother at below 6500'. After 1-1/4 hrs I headed for the Lz and found conditions to be bumpy over the Lz.

Monday,
Conditions were much nicer as compared to Sunday. Winds in Green Valley were max 8mph at 5pm, then 7mph there after. As I hiked up I thought it would be too light, but as it turned out it was perfect. I was glad to see Eric and John in the air. Just before I launched at 6pm John found sink and headed toward the LZ. He waved and told me that they were on a different freg. Eric was still above the upper launch. I launched and took the thermal straight up to 7100', then flew around for a while. Lift was always there as I went back to the hill, which always took me back to about 6,400'. Finally after Eric landed, I headed for the Lz and did my usual fun stuff, B-line stall, 50% a-symetrical, big ears, full frontal, spiral, and wing overs to a landing next to some grazing horses. Eric was impressed, but not so for the horses.
