Sunday Sept 2- I arrived in time to fly the evening glass off at Aspen. Beautiful smooth flight in classic Colorado fashion. 30 mins.
Monday Sept. 3- I was the last off Walshes in the morning. It was starting to cycle over the back and launching became quite a chore. I did get off in high pressure conditions but the thermals were nasty bullets. Who could think you could take a collapse at 50 fps up? I was sensing things were not going to get better when the bucking around was more prevalent than the climb. Landed with a short flight of 20 mins. No glass off for me due to a concert.
Wed. Sept 4- Met with Pine Pinaar from Adventur PG. We got two extended slide rides off of the morning site in Glenwood Springs. According to him-spring and summer is much better. It OD'd that evening.
Thurs- Sept 5- We went to the Roan Cliffs- an incredible site with huge possibilities. Pine and one other pilot took off reporting strong conditions. Verga and thunder on three horizons. I was desperate enough to set up anyway. After three blown launches in strong 8-18mph conditions the entire group bagged it. By the time we were down the hill- the entire sky let loose over the rockies.
Not my best Rocky Mtn. flying vacation but met some great people and avoided any accidents. Cheers, Ross
