Ca. flying report

Well I'mhomebut here is thereport.

Sun-21-heavy clouds and rain. Slick rock was closed down but nice hiking in the Sequioa's and NO ONE ELSE in the campground.

MON- Late clearing day. Martin and I flew off the BACK SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN! Total drain from the high Sierrra's. As we drove to camp- Slick rock was working but too late in the day. Amazingly clear air and multiple layers of cloudbase. Beautiful.

Tues- Flew Slickrock for an hour. Really smooth glass off for an hour. Couldn't really go anywhere but nice. Took a second sled ride landing uphill in catabatic conditions.

Wed-Flew Lemrou about 2pm. I sunk out but Martin flew the range for about an hour. He landed to drive with me up to Slickrock. We both flew in light conditions for an hour. Martin was gracious enough to let me take another sled ride.

Thurs- A butt kickin day at Comanche. Martin almost sunk out but hit a huge thermal that specked him out within about 5 minutes. He said he was 2000 ft. above bear and it got really rough as it tried to press him through the inversion. He complained of the wing diving to the horizon multiple times. I launched second. I have video of being ripped from earths grip. My vario was acting up, but I would guess I climbed out 2000 ft. in less than 5 minutes. Found myself far back in the range. That was the last of the smooth lift. Things only got rowdier from there. One thermal gave me 25% collapses every rotation all the way up. too many collapses to count but nothing incredibly scary. Martin flew for 80 minutes and 50 for me.

Good times as always.

Thanks for the report Ross. At least you got some air time in. It's been pretty much blown out for Pg's around here. Yesterday a few of us went to the training hill for a couple of hours, but that was all. Of course today should be ideal for Box, but I'm playing golf.
Hope you saved some vac. time to fly with us.
