Weekend Flying

Post by John Wolfe » Thu Oct 23, 2014 12:35 pm

Anyone available to fly this weekend? Assuming we can find suitable weather, I'd like to get out at least one day to see whether I can remember which strings to pull.

I would like to join you. Let me know what you have in mind and when. It will be my first official flight as a p-2!

Apache Maid looks blown out both days. I don't have a trip to the Craters in me this weekend, and I have a dinner engagement on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
Most of our local mountains do not look particularly promising, so I'm leaning toward towing if we can find a willing operator.

I might be interested in getting out someplace local on Sunday.

Keep me in the loop.

Eric and his student, Rod Cruz, John Lowery, and I flew the Craters Saturday and Sunday. It was a bit blown out for PG'ers but we managed to get in seven flights between us. Great to see John back in the air, it has been close to a year since his last flight.

Someone in a previous thread had mentioned Apache Maid; Eric attempted to show John and I the sight as we had never been there. However upon our ascent, we encountered a large gate at the base of the mountain. Does anyone know of an alternate way up?

Glad you guys had a good weekend at the Craters.
When the Apache Maid gate is locked, the PG pilots hike to launch. I know of no other way up the mountain. Steve (Bald Eagle) Konves has been discussing with the USFS the prospect of granting AZHPA members access through the gate. It's a lovely site, one that provides one of the best glass-offs in the state.
