The Oatman Fly-in, March 16-17 2013

Tim Costello asked me to repost this from the AZHPA message board, so here ya go...

The Oatman Fly-In is indeed scheduled for the weekend of St. Patrick's Day, March 16-17, 2013. Here are some random current details:

1. Like last year, this is just a get together, have fun sort of fly-in.
2. Therefore, I am planning only a spot landing contest, and a bomb-drop if I don’t forget again.
3. If anyone else would like to plan other fun stuff, go for it. Float it here in the forum and/or at the meetings, plan, execute, etc. Please keep me in the loop.
4. The big difference between last year’s and this and future fly-ins: last year we funded the fly-in from donations to the club in the name of Jerry Dalen, from Jane Dalen and other sources. Now, we gotta charge. It will be $20 per pilot, and only $5 per non-pilot (spouses, kids, yer dog if you give him a burger). This will fund:
a. The barbecue Saturday night.
b. The breakfast burritos Sunday morning.
c. The porta-john.
d. The casual flying-related activities previously mentioned.
5. Again this year, I plan to arrive Thursday and erect the 30’ plus tall wind streamer pole, rejuvenate the spot, set up a table, etc., and hope to fly on Friday. I hope the weather will again be conducive to great flying and encourage early arrival.
6. I could use some help in the form of a barbecue committee; I didn’t do so well last year (some of my barbie committee remained airborne) and Nichole and Debbie, I believe, did a great job of picking up the slack. I will still get the burgers & stuff.
7. Another thing I could use a couple of volunteers for is firewood collection. Helpful: besides a chainsaw, an open trailer or pickup.
8. I’m not expecting miracles or heavy commitments, but it will help to know how many are planning to come. Please pay Merle or me; not currently planning to charge more the day of arrival, but pre-“registration” helps. A phone call, email, PM, etc. will do for RSVP.
9. Please, as a courtesy to all, pick up after your critter(s), and leave the barkers at home,

Any other ideas, suggestions, volunteers, etc.- we have two meetings before the fly-in!
