Alamogordo flyin

Me and Raquel left Saturday morning for the Alamogordo flyin.

Too windy but waited in hopes of the wind calming before dark. It didn't calm much but a couple of the guys launched anyway in some high winds and managed a good 1/2 hour flight before sundown. Sunday was pretty much a repeat of Saturday except 5 of us launched near dark for a 1/2 to 1 hour glass off flights. Very smooth air once you got away from launch. The launch itself was still very windy though. I launched in a 27 mph wind as did others. Robin said he's never launched people in such high winds before. No blown launches though. In any case, the meet was on as there was spot landing and bomb dropping competition as well as altitude and duration competition etc.

There were maybe 8 or 10 HGs at the flyin and surprisingly a few PGs showed up but none flew on Sat or Sun (no surprise there).

I won the bomb dropping competition! I missed the spot by a mile but fortunately there was only one other person who dropped a bomb and he was aiming for the cars in the parking area...haha! Nevertheless, it was a glorious victory for me.

Things were calmer on Monday for a potential XC contest day.
Only two ended up trying for the XC, Robin and Brian. Brian flew for 20 miles and Robin was still flying when we left so I don't know who won. My flight was kinda short (less than 1hr) as were most of the others that launched too soon.

A big thanks to Robin Hastings and the rest of the club for putting on the flyin and for being such gracious hosts. We look forward to going back...in hopefully better conditions.
And of course a big thanks to my wife for all that she does to help everyone.
