USFS road changes and our flying sites

Post by jlowery » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:12 am

The US Forest Service Coronado National Forest has been working since late 2011 on significant changes to the forest road system. There was some concern that this would affect our flying sites, which are mostly in the Coronado NF.

At last night's meeting Secretary/Treasurer Jason Otto brought in an addendum sent by the USFS to the plan for the Huachucas. I've examined the initial propsals, the addendum, and the available maps. I don't see any impact on any of our launch or LZ sites.

Here are links to the project pages for the ranger districts in which we currently have USFS-permitted HG/PG launches. These include very large 1:24000 topo maps with the (pre-addendum) affected roads marked.

Catalina (Mt. Lemmon, Samaniego, Baba Do'ag) - http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/nepa_project_ ... ject=29215

Here is the main page for all forest projects, including similar projects in the Safford and Douglas districts where we don't have launches - http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/project_list. ... est=110305
