SAHGA "A" mtn American Cancer Society Climb Plan

Post by Lane » Fri Mar 02, 2012 9:09 am

Hey there SAHGA A mtn climbers. Just a quick update for ya. Many of you have brought up some additional variables to my attention.

1. Picking up shirts. I shifted some things around to allow more time for those interested in picking up their shirts before the hike. I'll be at my place and able to hand off your shirt to you tomorrow, Friday, between the hours of 1230-4pm and again later from 8pm-10pm. Otherwise you'll receive it at the LZ.

2. Wristbands. All participants will receive green wristbands which gets you some food on top of the mountain and in with the other activities. The events begin on the top of "A" mtn at 10:00.

3. Forecast. I'd like to hear some feedback on this one. Here's what I'm seeing. I've looked at four different forecast providers and this is what I'm taking away from it; ESE getting up to 13 mph, by noon the winds are expected to swing to the East and by one we can expect to have the winds swing to NE and tapering in velocity. If all this plays out tomorrow we could be looking at launching from the point above the "A". Not sure how the HGs feel about the East launch - you'll have plenty of hands to get things up there if you're interested. I'll bring a couple tarps to lay over the rock.
The top of usable lift is forecasted to break 5,000 feet so keep our ceiling of 4200 feet in mind (about 1,000 feet above launch).

3. Meeting at Pima Community College. Let's first off leave a couple rigs at the LZ and we'll carpool over to Pima Community College - West. The plan is to meet there at 7:30, by then some folks will begin walking up the mountain, but there is no official start time. Activities are set to begin on the top of the mountain at 10am (3 mile hike from Pima Community College). And it will be a little chilly in the morning.

4. LZ meetup. Still aiming to be there by 0630. Eric has volunteered to shuttle our gear up with his suburban.

I'll post this on the forum so you can refer and comment on it there.

See y'all soon
