Miller Launch

I called the Sierra Vista Ranger District to check if the road will be open. She indicated that it will not be open and she did not know when it will open.

What Andy said. Damn.

The Coronado NF website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/Remain ... ly2011.htm still says August 20th, so today I called the USFS Sierra Vista office to ask about that.

The person who answered (said she was reading from notes) said that Ash, Miller and the lower part of Carr would be open, but Carr Canyon road is still washed out below the falls and requires more reconstruction. No access to the campground. She was as helpful as she could be, describing the problem in detail, but could give no ETA on it at this time.

Well thanks for that info Andy. I propose that as soon as we hear we have access lets get together and make a trip up to see what we need to do.

Miller weather looks good this weekend.
So I wonder how difficult it would be to drive through or around the washed out section.

No access yet. But Eric spoke with Duane, who said that the only major impediment to reopening the road is the need to rebuild the fence around the falls to keep drunk rednecks from falling off the damned thing (I added that last part). He (Duane) reports the road is passable, if narrow in spots but still closed to the public.

Eric says he did not get an exact E.T.A., but Carr is currently scheduled to reopen on October 15th, according to the Coronado N.F. web site.

Duane is also reported to have said that the fire burned hot up on the reefs, that it's pretty well burned off.

It's a shame, the forecast looks perfect for Miller this weekend. :(
