How is Lew doing?

Anybody know how Lew's surgery went? Is he at home or still in the hospital?

Saw him a couple nights ago at the rehab 'hospital'. He seemed to be doing well. that is- his energy level was good, still sharp as a tack and in good spirits. The surgery involved replacing his whole hip, which went well. He's looking at a 6-12 month recovery. Doc was impressed with his physical condition (he'll be 76 shortly) which will certainly help him recover. The doctor also advised him to keep on flying- as he recognized the obvious health benefits of hiking up Box.

I think the part that was nagging at Lew the most, was that he felt that he broke his promise to Jean, and flew in conditions that were beyond what he should have been flying in. At this point, he's thinking that he won't fly anymore. That's fine- provided that he follows doctors orders and continues to hike up Box. I've got a paraglider for him to carry so that he gets a little extra exercise.

I just heard about Lew today. It hurt my heart to hear the news. He's a wonderful guy, and I hope he recovers well and flies again.
