Man injured in paragliding accident
Green Valley, Ariz. - A 54-year-old man suffered a broken wrist and a fractured femur in a paragliding accident.
It happened Friday night in the area of Alazurra Peak and Santa Rita Mountains.

Deputies with the Green Valley district say the man was flying too close to the ground and clipped a rock, causing it to crash. He was accompanied by a second paraglider who managed to land safely near the crash site.

Both of the paragliders were airlifted out of the area.
The injured man was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center.

At this point we only know who it wasn't. Aaron Stutz, Mike Sargent, Andy Miller, and I are all accounted for.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier. Yesterday I was exhausted because of only getting a few hours of sleep the night before.

The pg pilot that was injured was a newer pilot named Kevin. He was flying too close to the mountain when he experienced some sink and then made contact with the ground. He suffered a broken leg and wrist.

I hadn't taken off yet and hiked to him to aid in his rescue. We were both flown to UMC later.

I am both saddened and frustrated by the event. The incident was easily avoidable and the pilot was advised not to fly too close to the ridge but chose to anyways. And Morey I hear your frustration. Glass-off is supposed to be safer. But we still need to make good choices. Terrain clearance (no matter the conditions) is always a good choice...

Thanks for the info. As my instructor told me many years ago. "Try to fly in the middle of the air, not near the edges."
