Forecast as of Sat AM looks pretty good. I'm going to check again around 11AM and make the call.

The desert looks terrific. The ocotillo are leafed out and velvety green. The grass is thigh-high. Started hiking at 2:30PM. The trail is so overgrown, we were basically bushwhacking. Summited the first knoll at 3:30PM. Winds were NW, biased to the N, nice velocity, thermally. I launched the north side of the first knoll around 4PM. The winds on launch were just lovely - perfect for a student. I scratched around, maybe four or five passes, slowly losing altitude, and decided I needed to head for the LZ, lest I come up short. I turned away from the ridge and flew into a big, bubbly thermal that smoothly lifted me 1000'. I flew up the spine and found abundant bubbles to carry me several hundred above the peak. It was bubbly thermals until about 5PM when there was a light, gentle glass-off. I couls float around pretty much anywhere and maintain 100' over the peak, even out in front. At about 5:30, I was shivering from the cold, so I headed to the LZ for an uneventful landing in a light, smooth NW breeze. I packed up, checked the memorial stone, contemplated Arjan and Chaz (you know Chaz made Arjan's memorial stone) and Steve Jobs, and drove back into Tucson with the heater blasting.

Thanks to my friend Angela for accompanying me. I would not have flown by myself.

That sounds fantastic Scott. I would've loved to have joined you but I'm out of town. Perhaps we could try sometime when I get back.

Either way, congrats on a great sounding flight!
