Today, September 10 looks good for Mustang. I will be there this afternoon. Ioan also wants to come. Is anyone else interested?

Mustang report, September 10

Post by lewsmith » Sat Sep 11, 2010 11:39 am

Friday, September 10, was a great day at Mustang. Winds at launch were West about 7 to 15 at 5 PM. Winds aloft were 10 to 15, glassoff smooth and lifty. Doc Aaron launched launched at about 4:50 and flew Mustang, Biscuit, and Bruno until sunset. That nearly 2 hour flight was his longest! Congratulations! Ioan launched shortly after Aaron, flew Mustang and Biscuit and then flew ALL OVER Bruno's north side. While soaring Bruno very far back in the canyon, Ioan encountered sink and had to land a long distance from our vehicles. I launched at 5:50 and flew until a bit after sunset. The wind in the LZ at sunset was NNW at about 5.
I got some very sticky weeds in my wing which caused the lines to tangle together. This made launching very difficult, and once I was in the air, I needed a lot of right brake to fly straight. My wife is a pretty good botanist and she says that several types of plants get very sticky at this time of the year. Next time, I will carefully clean out any weeds.
